Andrew Goodwin

Illustration videos.
One of Andrew Goodwins theorys was called illustration. This was meant whereby the shots on screen and the cuts flows with the beat. It also is in most cases that what is being said within the lyrics is literally or somewhat similar to what is being show in the current shot on the screen. A very good example of this is the song by Owl City, Fireflies. Another great example of this is Friday by Rebecca Black as with Rebecca's lyrics she is singing exactly what is currently happing on screen in a lot of the shots throughout the videos. One more video that is a good example is a song by Train called 50 Ways To Say Goodbye. This is a another good example as a lot of the lyrics are actually shown with lyric related cuts in the video.

Amplification videos.
Another one of Andrew Goodwins theories was amplification. This is whereby some of the lyrics are related to what is being shown on screen, but not as much as shown in illustration videos. It is usually also videos which contain a lot of performance from the artists. Furthermore what is happening on screen may be the artist trying to send a message across but with his lyrics not being as relevant to the video. An example of a video is Cold play, The Scientist.

Disjuncture video
A disjuncture video is a video whereby the beat and the rhythm of the cuts and also the lyrics have no relation whats so ever meaning that nothing in the video makes sense. This type of video is usually made by artists and bands who are already very big in the music scene and it does not matter if they're video dent make sense. An example of this is Can't stop by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. This video has no lyrics matching the actions on screen but they know that they are able to do this as they are already a very successful band in the music scene.
