Conventions of a pop music video

In this i will be naming conventions of a music pop video using three videos to present these conventions.

These include:
  • Olly Murs - Thinking of me
  • Conor Maynard - R u crazy
  • Justin Bieber - One time
  • Possibly other examples

High key lighting
High key lighting is used very often within pop music videos, as pop videos usually aim to send across a happy and bright vibe.

Fast paced editing
Fast paced is often used when the rhythm and the speed of the beat increases. This is done to switch up the variety of the shot cut lengths and it is also used to enable the editing to flow with the speed of the beat.

Close ups
Close ups are used very often as most pop music vides focus on making the artist stand out as much as possible.

Eye contact with camera
This is an extremely essential convention as this convention is the best way for the artist to connect with the viewer through the camera, as looking directly into the camera enables the viewer to feel as if the artist is singing directly to them.

Mise en scene
A very typical colour to have in pop music videos for a top is usually white as the colour white has connotations of purity, happiness, honesty etc. This is used to emphasise the mood of the pop artists in their video.

The positioning
In a conventional music pop video, the artist is mostly presented in the middle of the frame. This is used to emphasise the importance of the artist and it is also used to ensure that he viewer is focusing on the artist.
